Laird Adds a New Blast

"The Art of Mirage Studios -- was a project that (Peter Laird) put a lot of work into, back in the early 1990s, and which -- for a variety of reasons -- never quite came together."

Roseangelo Openly Shares Her Thoughts on "TurtleCon"

"Many of the people who would be taking the time to read this most likely are familiar with my point of view on what is known as "TurtleCon." I am fully aware of how my name has been thrown around to various people regarding the views that I hold. The purpose of writing this essay isn't to "clear my name" with those who may be angry at me because of my views (I know who my friends are, and I have no need to clear my name with them), but simply to explain my thoughts on "TurtleCon" because I think they need to be heard. I know that many people I have spoken to share similar thoughts, I just thought it about time someone spoke them to the public..."

Big Changes at Mirage Studios!

Not only has Peter Laird begun his new "Blast From the Past" section of the Official TMNT Site, but he has also made a MAJOR change in the the Turtles' Universe.

As of November 8, the Fifth Turtle Venus Di Milo no longer exists. Peter Laird never liked the show Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation, where Venus had her "forced" debut.

"This news will bring tears of joy as well as sorrow to the different camps out there... for those of you who will rejoice at this news, I have congratulations, and for those of you who will be saddened by this news, you have my condolences. The times they are a-changin'... back to the way they were," says www.ninjaturtles.com Webmaster Dan Berger.

Co-Turtle Creator Peter Laird adds, "Yes, there was a female Turtle and there was a show called "Ninja Turtles: The Next Mutation", but nothing in that show is considered by us as part of the 'official' backstory of the Turtles... it is instead only a part of the history of the licensing of the TMNT property."

What's worse, Peter Laird had originally agreed with Kevin Eastman that they would never have a female turtle. The point being that the Turtles were alone in the universe, thus adding to the emotion and reality of each character.

Fox and Saban required a female counterpart for the live-action series simply to absorb female fandom and keep with the pro-feminist side of the politics surrounding the show. Unfortunately, Fox and Saban failed miserably at the attempt -- making Venus a stereotyped, subordinate object of ridicule and sexist remarks from the others. Decidedly, she was a hinderance to the show's appeal. Ultimately, the show was cancelled. And now, Peter Laird has decided to wipe the slate clean, so to speak.
